What is Klaviyo Personalization, and is it worth paying for?

By , Founder of Everboost · Published

The short answer

Klaviyo Personalization is the paid add-on formerly called Marketing Analytics, renamed in September 2026. It adds RFM, cohort, funnel and product analysis reports, multi-touch attribution, and two send-time features, Audience Optimization and Personalized Send Time, that are only available with it. Klaviyo's help centre prices it from $100 a month for up to 13,500 active profiles. Predictive analytics such as predicted CLV and churn risk are already in the standard Marketing plan, so most brands under eight figures in annual revenue can do without it; above that, test its two send-time features against Klaviyo's built-in control groups before deciding.

What is Klaviyo Personalization?

Klaviyo Personalization is the paid add-on that used to be called Marketing Analytics. Klaviyo renamed it at K:BOS on 9 September 2026 and gave it a bigger job: on top of the existing analytics reports, it now includes models that decide who receives each campaign, what they see, when they get it and on which channel. Klaviyo’s help centre still calls it Marketing Analytics in many articles, so expect to see both names for a while. Our K:BOS 2026 breakdown covers the rest of what was announced.

The question most brands are actually asking is simpler: do I need to pay for this? Klaviyo cannot answer that honestly, because the answer for many brands is no. Everboost is a Klaviyo partner and runs Klaviyo every day, so this is an operator’s answer, not a competitor’s.

What do you already get on the Marketing plan?

More than most brands realise, and this is the part that decides the answer. As of October 2026, Klaviyo’s pricing page lists predictive analytics as part of the standard Marketing plan, not the add-on. That means these properties are calculated and written onto every eligible profile, ready to segment and trigger flows on, at no extra cost:

  • Historic, predicted and total customer lifetime value
  • Churn risk
  • Average time between orders
  • Expected date of next order
  • Predicted gender

They need data to switch on: at least 500 customers who have ordered, 180 days of order history with orders in the last 30 days, and some customers with three or more orders. The Marketing plan also includes segment performance reports, onsite personalisation and product recommendations.

For most retention work, that is the core of it. A replenishment flow timed off expected next order date, a win-back segment built on churn risk and a VIP segment on predicted CLV are all possible on the Marketing plan without Personalization.

How much does Klaviyo Personalization cost?

Klaviyo’s help centre says it is priced on active profiles, starting at $100 a month for up to 13,500 active profiles, and that you need an email plan and a profile plan alongside it. Klaviyo’s product page shows the same $100 next to its slider’s default of 1,500 profiles, which is easy to misread as the band limit; the help centre is the clearer source. Above 13,500 profiles the price scales with your profile count, so check the pricing page with your own number.

The money is rarely the real cost. At $100 a month, the subscription is small next to the revenue a mid-sized brand runs through Klaviyo. The real cost is whether anyone on the team will use the reports and act on them, and whether the two send-time features earn more than they cost, which you can measure.

Is Klaviyo Personalization worth it?

Everboost’s working view: for most DTC brands under eight figures in annual revenue, it is not worth paying for yet; above eight figures, it is worth testing. The reasoning has three parts.

The core segmentation is already free. The predictions that power most retention segmentation come with the Marketing plan. The add-on’s reports are useful for diagnosis, but a brand under eight figures usually has bigger, more obvious fixes (a missing post-purchase flow, no replenishment timing, a welcome flow that stops after three emails) than anything an RFM trend chart will reveal.

The send-time features move small percentages. Audience Optimization and Personalized Send Time optimise sends you are already making. A small lift on a large campaign programme is meaningful money; the same lift on a small programme is not. What matters is the absolute revenue a feature adds, not the rate it improves, and that only adds up at volume.

The reports overlap with tools many brands already have. Cohort, lifetime value and attribution analysis are things Everboost does in a separate analytics stack connected to Shopify and the subscription platform, because that is where the full order history sits. The add-on’s real advantage is different: it writes its results onto Klaviyo profiles, so a segment or flow can act on them directly. If you would use Next best product in a post-purchase flow, that is a reason to buy it. If you would only look at the charts, it probably is not.

How do you test whether it is earning its cost?

Klaviyo has built the test in, which is the best thing about the add-on. Both send-time features hold out a random control group automatically and report the difference:

  1. Audience Optimization. On every campaign that uses it, a random group of eligible recipients receives the campaign without optimisation. Klaviyo compares the optimised group against that control on engagement, conversion and unsubscribes, and shows how many profiles it removed on each campaign.
  2. Personalized Send Time. Klaviyo reports open, click and placed order rate lift against a control group. It works on email, SMS, push and WhatsApp campaigns, not flows, and needs scheduling at least a day ahead.

How to run it: switch on Audience Optimization for a month of normal campaigns, then compare revenue from the optimised group with the control, not just open rates. A model that removes the people least likely to engage will almost always improve rates, because the audience got smaller. The question is whether total revenue held up. Do it outside your peak: our Black Friday Klaviyo guide recommends sending as broad as deliverability allows on the big days, which is the opposite of what Audience Optimization does. Klaviyo also does not offer it while an account is in Reputation Repair.

Can you build RFM segments without the add-on?

Yes. The RFM report needs Personalization, but RFM-style segments do not. On the Marketing plan you can combine three conditions Klaviyo already tracks:

  • Recency: placed order within the last X days (or not)
  • Frequency: placed order at least N times over all time
  • Spend: historic CLV above a threshold you set from your own order data

That gives you the groups that matter for retention, such as recent high-spend repeat buyers, lapsing loyal customers and one-time buyers drifting away. What you lose without the add-on is the automatic grouping, the trend view showing how customers move between groups over time, and the time spent setting thresholds. For the full picture of what a healthy repeat-buyer base looks like, see our guide to a good repeat purchase rate.

Personalized Send Time or Smart Send Time?

They are different features with confusingly similar names:

Smart Send TimePersonalized Send Time
DecidesOne best time for your whole audienceA time for each recipient
Needs12,000+ recipients and exploratory sendsPersonalization or Advanced KDP
ChannelsEmail campaignsEmail, SMS, push and WhatsApp campaigns
FlowsNoNo
CostFreePart of the add-on

Neither should be confused with Smart Sending, the frequency cap that skips recent recipients, which our Smart Sending guide covers. If you have fewer than 12,000 recipients per campaign, neither send-time feature is likely to change much for you, which is another reason the add-on suits larger senders.

What should you do?

  • Under eight figures: use the predictive properties you already have. Build replenishment timing off expected next order date, a win-back on churn risk and RFM-style segments by hand. Revisit the add-on when your campaign volume grows.
  • Above eight figures, not yet paying: take a trial month, run Audience Optimization on normal campaigns outside peak, and judge it on revenue against the control group.
  • Already paying: check whether anyone uses the reports, and whether Next best product or Best cross-sell date are in any flow. If neither, the subscription is not earning its keep.

Frequently asked questions

What is Klaviyo Personalization?

Personalization is the new name for Klaviyo's Marketing Analytics add-on, announced at K:BOS on 9 September 2026. It includes RFM analysis, cohort and funnel analysis, product analysis, a customisable CLV report, multi-touch attribution, and AI features that decide who receives a campaign (Audience Optimization) and when (Personalized Send Time). It is a paid add-on to the Marketing plan.

Is Klaviyo Marketing Analytics the same as Personalization?

Yes. Klaviyo renamed Marketing Analytics to Personalization in September 2026 and expanded it with new decision models, some still in preview. Klaviyo's help centre still uses the old name in many articles, so you will see both.

How much does Klaviyo Personalization cost?

Klaviyo's help centre says it is priced on active profiles, starting at $100 a month for up to 13,500 active profiles. You also need a Klaviyo email plan and profile plan, because it is an add-on rather than a standalone product. Check the pricing page with your own profile count for the exact figure above that band.

What is included in the Klaviyo Marketing plan without Personalization?

Predictive analytics are included: historic, predicted and total customer lifetime value, churn risk, average time between orders, expected date of next order and predicted gender, written onto each profile so you can segment on them. The Marketing plan also includes segment performance reports, onsite personalisation and product recommendations. Predictive analytics need at least 500 customers with orders, 180 days of order history with orders in the last 30 days, and some customers with three or more orders.

Which Klaviyo features require Personalization?

The RFM report, cohort analysis, funnel analysis, conversion overview, audience performance summary, product analysis (including the Next best product and Best cross-sell date profile properties), the customisable CLV report and multi-touch attribution. Klaviyo's help centre also lists Audience Optimization and Personalized Send Time as available only on the Marketing Analytics or Advanced KDP packages.

Is Klaviyo Personalization worth it?

For most DTC brands under eight figures in annual revenue, probably not yet: the Marketing plan's predictive properties cover the core segmentation, and the add-on's send-time features move small percentages that only add up to meaningful money at volume. Above that, it is worth testing, because Audience Optimization and Personalized Send Time each run against an automatic control group, so you can see whether they earn their cost in your own account.

What is Klaviyo Audience Optimization?

A Personalization feature that predicts, at send time, which campaign recipients are unlikely to engage or convert or likely to unsubscribe, and removes the highest-risk ones. Klaviyo automatically holds out a random control group on every campaign that uses it and reports the difference. It works on email, SMS, RCS, WhatsApp, push and omnichannel campaigns, and is not available while an account is in Reputation Repair.

What is the difference between Personalized Send Time and Smart Send Time?

Smart Send Time finds one best send time for your whole audience, needs at least 12,000 recipients and runs exploratory sends first; it is free. Personalized Send Time picks a time for each individual recipient using reinforcement learning, works on email, SMS, push and WhatsApp campaigns but not flows, needs scheduling at least a day ahead, and requires Personalization or Advanced KDP.

Can you do RFM segmentation in Klaviyo without Personalization?

Yes. The RFM report itself needs the add-on, but you can build RFM-style segments on the Marketing plan from order count, last order date and the historic CLV predictive property. You lose the automatic groupings and the trend view over time, not the ability to segment on recency, frequency and spend.

What is the difference between Personalization and Advanced KDP?

Klaviyo describes Personalization as the analytics-focused add-on and Advanced KDP (Advanced Klaviyo Data Platform, formerly CDP) as the data-management one, with tools for data transformation, warehouse syncing and more custom metrics (Advanced KDP raises the limit from 1 to 50). Both packages unlock Audience Optimization and Personalized Send Time.
